More of the Sundarbans: Photos

Regrettably, I took only the one high quality photo of a Bengal tiger. It was awesome to be there, in his presence, in person. But objectively, the photography conditions were a bit tough: we were on a boat offshore, and our tiger was tucked up in the deep shade of the mangroves. Moreover, this was the trip that would lead me to realize that I really needed to invest in a telephoto lens!

Our best view of the tiger, sans zoom.

So instead of additional tiger photos, allow me to present you with other highlights from our Sundarbans safari!

This is how it began: at a gas station, chai in hand, definitely not spitting. Gosh, this illustrates so much about independent travel in India, all neatly encapsulated in one photo.
The foreground shows the type of ferry that took us to our Sundarbans camp. The background is a cautionary tale.
Feeling suitably welcomed!

Okay, not technically wildlife, but I couldn’t resist the interspecies bffs below at our camp. They are not aware that they are different types: they just love each other and it is wonderful.

Okay, now it’s safari time – Sundarbans style!
Rollin’ on the river…
Note the salt water tide line, clearly visible in the mangrove foliage! Mangroves are so magical.
Here’s a bird’s eye view of the mangrove forest, as seen from the canopy walk at Dobanki Camp!
Perhaps we should have been: Peaks, Penguins & Nice Plants <3
Mudskippers! So neat! The small things are often my safari faves.
Chital are top-shelf diners. And beautiful to boot!
Not a tiger, but another top predator in this wild wetland…
Now waving farewell to our watery wonderland at the end of our adventures.
